LAND WANTED

Regenerating a former brickworks site with low carbon homes

The scheme:

29 houses and cottage flats for affordable rent and shared ownership

Location:

Bellerton Lane, Stoke on Trent

Our client:

Aspire Housing

Status:

Under construction

We overcame multiple engineering challenges to regenerate this brownfield site which was previously home to a quarry and brickworks and had been used most recently for light industrial activity.

There was risk associated with former coal mining activity and a total absence of any drainage records, which required creative problem solving to arrive at a suitable engineered draining solution.

We treated this project as a pilot scheme towards the implementation of the Future Homes standard and the project has integrated carbon-reducing technologies, such as the use of air source heat pumps and increased U values and thermal efficiency.

The result is a well-designed scheme of houses and cottage flats being made available to meet local demand for affordable rented and shared ownership tenures.

“What has impressed me about working with Stanley is the clarity and honesty with which they communicate and the accuracy of their cost planning and programming.”
