Residential Homes Secured On Strategic Employment Site

Stanley Investments Ltd has secured planning consent for 51 new affordable homes on the site of the former Atkinson and Kirby flooring manufacturers in Ormskirk. The planning consent also includes a Lidl superstore at 1,726sqm and six Commercial Units at 660sqm.

The site was allocated as a Strategic Employment site by West Lancashire Borough Council in 2013 however the planning submission, a Collaboration between Stanley Investments, Citypark and Lidl UK produced a compelling case to West Lancashire Council and the prospect of a high quality, mixed use regeneration of the vacant brownfield site despite its allocation as a Strategic Employment Site.

In respect of the principle of mixed-use development the benefits of the scheme outweigh the harm to employment policy objectives of the Local Plan.’

Chris Curtis, Director at Stanley Investments said, ‘We are thrilled to be able to deliver the residential component of this scheme to our valued RP partners at Chorley Community Housing. This consent is the product of many months of close collaboration with our development partners at Lidl and Citypark, along with the support of our excellent professional team. Lidl Reveals Plans To Bring New Store To Ormskirk

Lidl UK has announced that it intends to build a new store in Ormskirk on land off Hattersley Way.

The planned new store is part of a wider proposed development which will also include 51 new affordable homes for Chorley Community Housing, part of Jigsaw Homes Group and six new small employment units.

The public are invited to attend a public consultation event on the whole development, which will take place between 3pm and 7.30pm on Monday 25th June at Ormskirk Rugby Club, Green Lane, Ormskirk. The development team, including representatives from Lidl will be on hand to outline the plans and answer any questions from the local community relating to the new foodstore, six new employment units and new housing.

The substantial investment in the community will see Lidl commit to building a sustainable 1,100m² net sales store, with plans to create up to 40 new jobs for local people, increasing the employment offering in the area. The supermarket will boast state of the art facilities including an in-store bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets and ample parking which will include two spaces with electric car charging points.

Chorley Community Housing are planning to provide 51 new affordable homes on the site. These will include a varied mix of housing, ranging from one-bedroom apartments for older people through to three-bedroom family houses. The local area has a lower than average proportion of affordable housing and, if approved, the proposals will substantially help to address that.

There will be six new small employment units of 110 sq m each, which are designed for starter businesses and smaller companies looking to relocate. Units here will further increase employment opportunities for local people with around 20 jobs likely to be created, bringing the total for the whole site to 60 jobs in total

Lidl UK’s Senior Acquisitions Consultant, Dominic Bryan, commented: “We’ve been looking to bring a new Lidl store to Ormskirk for some time and we believe that this is a most appropriate location. As well as bringing Lidl’s famous low price, high quality offer to the town, we would also expect that a new store will also deliver around 40 new jobs for local people. Working with our partners Citypark, Stanley Investments and Chorley Community Housing, we look forward to welcoming members of the public to view the plans whilst answering any questions people may have.”

Lidl UK has experienced continued growth over the years as consumers flock to the supermarket to discover its great value products – more than two thirds of which are British sourced – ranging from quality British fruit and vegetables, to premium wines from its much coveted Wine Tour collections. It’s ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting the supermarket’s continued growth, with sales up 10.3% year on year and a market share high of 5.4%.

The planned new store in Ormskirk will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio 700 and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see it open up to 50 new stores a year.

It is expected that a planning application will be submitted in the coming weeks and anyone wanting to find out more information can call 0800 089 0361.

Housing Earmarked For Wigan Cattle Market Site

Working with PWA Planning, housing association Jigsaw and developer Stanley Investments have launched a public consultation on plans to build 70 homes on a former cattle market in Wigan.
